Roxy Peroxyde

b. 1987, Montreal, Canada

Roxy Peroxyde (Roxanne Sauriol Hauenherm) is a German-Canadian artist whose photorealistic oil paintings have been exhibited and collected internationally. She is recognized for her vivid portrayals of female figures, which serve as vessels for an autobiographical narrative shaped by the zeitgeist.

Her paintings strike at the status quo with sharp wit, disarming self-deprecation, and a humour that shifts seamlessly from light to dark.

Through these strategies, Hauenherm explores themes ranging from spiritual psychosis to speculations on life beyond Earth. Her work often employs religious symbolism as an access point to examine the roles women inhabit within the collective consciousness and modern society.

While her use of colour and subject matter may seem deceptively superficial—and to some, even shallow—this aesthetic is deliberate. The hyper-saturated palette acts as a sugar coat, the subject as an entry point, creating tension between what is seen at first glance and what is being said.

What initially appears visually delightful gradually reveals itself to be psychologically or socially charged, generating friction between aesthetic pleasure and intellectual discomfort.Hauenherm’s process begins with the development of conceptual frameworks, followed by the meticulous casting of models whose ability to embody the emotional and intellectual dimensions of her themes ensures each work achieves its fullest intent. Positioning the artist–muse relationship at the forefront, capturing her shared and personal experience of womanhood. Her practice is rooted in technical mastery and uncompromising storytelling, standing firmly on the principles of truth and integrity.
