Statement:

I choose to make women the foreground of my work as an escape from my own conception of social and emotional limitations. Through the depiction of other women, I am able to express the results of a continuous introspection without the burden of being directly represented in a narrative that is strongly based on self-perception.

Painting came as a necessity and is the perfect language to raise self-related questions and express vulnerability while remaining inexplicit as interpretation remains personal to each individual. I define my practice as a never-ending work in progress as it plays a therapeutic role, giving me the distance I need to understand my self and my place in the world.

Bio:

Self-taught, Roxanne Sauriol was born in 1987 in Montreal. Following the birth of her only daughter, she undertakes the work of a first collection. After her first publication in an art magazine she pushed her career forward and found herself quickly immersed in the art world.

Sauriol paints full time from her studio, downtown Montreal where she photographs and conceptualizes the images that will then be used as a visual reference for her final work, meticulously painted with acrylics. Sauriol is now at her 11th exhibition, including four solo shows and a fifth one in summer 2019.
